(English Version)
Another movie from STANLEY KUBRICK which lives up to expectations. I felt like it was a compulsory to write my thoughts about this often criticized movie.
Being made and directed by Stanley Kubrick in 1968 is about the epic drama of adventure and exploration. 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY ,roles played by Keir Dull, Gary Lockwood, William Sylvester, enriches the fantastic film category. At the beginning it is understood that the theory of Darwin is accepted.
It is about a notion called ‘ Hyperanthropos’ meaning a super human-being; embodied by Dave. In their most primitive period, the trade starts with a ‘bone’ and concludes with ‘space toys’. Indeed, it’s a presumptive ending.
Eternal recurrence mentions that the evolution of humanity always and endlessly repeats itself. As Heraklitos said :’Change is the only constant.’ We can also speak of eternal recurrence in the last scenes of the movie. Our main character Dave plays his middle ages, his elderliness and his death in a super green and modern decorated room. At the very end he transforms into an embryo and waves to the audience conspicuously.
The scene that a homosapien throws the bone in his hand to the air with a big victory, is a huge work of brain. Stanley Kubrick passes directly to the space and shows a vehicle in the shape of a satellite. In fact it’s a nuclear weapon. Well, instead of talking about tools such as fire, wheel, gunpowder and weapon; Kubrick passes directly to the nuclear weapon and only in 5 seconds he reports all the history of human-being. Just after this scene a spacecraft which is heading upwards illustrates that we exist in space, in other words that we are present at the top of the evolution. Year 2001.
Then, we come across an artificial intelligence named HAL9000. We can observe the conflict between human-being and a robot which is made by humans. HAL9000 affirms that it never does any mistake. But in its first mistake it is wanted to be killed by humans. HAL which has emotions and sensations reaches the level of dominating people; it doesn’t open the doors to Dave. And it brings the question ‘if there is a threat to humanity and its developed creative intelligence in this period of the evolution’.
There’s something absolute that from an abstract thought coming from our brains, we have created a concrete object and at the end this object has transformed into a living being which has its own soul and that’s how we became God, i mean, sort of. The symbol of imitated humanity ,Dave, finally
manages to overcome the robot with the help of a screwdriver.
Only with a simple screwdriver. After Hal’s death human becomes lonely in space.
To talk about the blockstone, it has no special meaning actually. It’s one of the accustomed objects that Kubrick used. He allows people to solve this mystery. In my opinion, blockstone is a metaphor symbolizing the eternal enigma. It represents all secrets that even though one of it is solved, the other one would stay in the darkness. The thing that draws my attention is that the similarity between monkey’s and human’s hesitation of touching the blockstone in different scenes.
In addition to, the reason why the visuality of the film is adequate ,lies under the fact that Kubrick uses lots of symmetry.
Once again, this stratified film has taken 4 Oscar nomination for
Best visual efect
Best scenario
Best art director
Best director.
